Di Holdsworth

Pygmalion’s Folly, after Gerome (detail), 2022, kinetic music box assemblage

Di Holdsworth is a practicing artist living in the Blue Mountains, Australia.
Working primarily in kinetic assemblage, her work explores movement, sound, materiality, and constructed form. Driven by music box movements, hand-built mechanisms and sound, these pieces unfold as layered narratives that draw on myth, fairy tale, philosophy, popular culture and history.

Her delicate sculptures recreate our first experiences of clockwork and wind-up objects, with their freaky-fascinating movements, their parody of human mechanics, their unnerving foreshadowing of adult desires and relationships.
